Quick Start Guide

Who the Library is For

This library is for YOU! Making it here, you likely have some interest in nonhumanity, be it because you yourself are nonhuman, you're researching nonhumanity, or you're simply curious about the phenomenon, you are our target audience and a patron just by finding us! You do not need any special qualifications or knowledge to use the library - we operate like any other library; if you want the latest research articles and nearly lost archival materials from 1993, sure, we've got that. But we also have all sorts of materials like fictional works relevant to nonhumans, TTRPGs, and links/guides to nonhuman community projects!

How to Use the Library

On the left-hand side, you'll find the "View the Collection" button, which is currently housed in a Google Drive. The library is working to get storage space beyond the minimal 15 GB Google gives us and on a platform that's not controlled by a massive tech company, but for now, this is where you can find all of our public materials. The Drive is not yet very searchable, so if you need some help locating materials... Contact us! More than just our materials, the Library of Medusa has real, live, nonhuman librarians who would be thrilled to help you out and talk with you! If you want research help, if you want to know what services we could offer, if you want to help us out, want to ask about getting you specific media (even if it's not 'academic'), or even just want to chat, our communication is available! You can find a link to our email on the lefthand side via the "Contact the Library" button, and both our email and BlueSky can be found at the bottom of the home page.

Other Places to Start Beyond the Collection

Libraries are important community resources. If you're looking to get in touch with similar nonhuman projects, you can take a look under our "Associated Organizations" tab. We're currently looking into setting up pages with localized nonhuman resources so that folks can find group chats and communities in their area. This is still a work in progress, and we'll update this page as we make headway. In the meantime, if you're a nonhuman community looking to advertise here, let us know! Our Featured Exhibit, currently a minor project adapted from one of our librarian's classwork, will hopefully expand into curated selections to provide context on nonhuman history without having to dig through hundreds of papers and reports. More questions for us? Our FAQ might be able to help!
